The Nilgiris : The Nilgiris Bar Association organised an awareness program at the Tamilagam Bungalow in Ooty for the tribals to educate them on the laws and welfare schemes by the government. The awareness camp was headed by the Chennai High Court Judge, Vineeth Kothari.

The Association Secretary Suresh Kumar along with District Secretary of the Association Rajasekar welcomed the chief guests - Nilgiris District Judge Vadamalai, District Collector J. Innocent Divya, District Police Superintendent Shanmugapriya and Mahila Court Justice, Muralitharan.
Judge Kothari in his address said, "Nilgiris is incredibly beautiful and the tribal occupants here are humble and peace lovers. The government has been taking several measures to make Nilgiris plastic free and has been actively planting trees. As public, it is a duty to help the government to implement their schemes successfully. Law and justice should reach people living in the distant regions including tribals and it should reach on time".
He also encouraged the tribal communities to submit their grievances and requests in forms of a petition to the district officials who will take the necessary action.
The Chennai High Court Judge Satheesh Kumar said, "Nilgiris acts as the water resource of the south. But currently the beauty and environment of the Nilgiris is getting depleted. It is the duty of every resident to help maintain the beauty and sanctity of Nilgiris. It is also important that tribals get their rights and the officials should make sure that it happens. Tribal education is very important. We need to learn to live on our own terms without expecting free schemes from the government. He also mentioned that the useful schemes from both state and central government needs to reach people on time and the grievances should be addressed with immediate action by the officials."
