Coimbatore: A two-day old female infant was rescued near Revenue Development Office in Annur on Friday. The baby was found with no clothes on and had been bitten by ants and worms in its umbilical cord.

The rescued baby is said to be in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Coumbatore government hospital, the police said.
As female neonaticide is suspected, the police have registered a case and are investigating to trace the whereabouts of the mother.
As per Police records, the baby was found by the public near the Revenue Development Office in Annur. The public recued the child who was found crying amidst a bush in an ill state and alerted the Police.
The Annur police rushed to the spot and rescued the infant and admitted in Annur Government Hospital for treatment.
Due to worm and ant infestation, the new born is suffering from severe umbilical cord infections, owing to which the infant was shifted from Annur GH to Coimbatore GH for critical treatment. The infant is presently fighting for her life at the GH.
