The new army recruits took their oaths placing their hands on the Bhagavad Gita, Bible, Quran and the National Flag, and also consumed salt.

The new army recruits took their oaths placing their hands on the Bhagavad Gita, Bible, Quran and the National Flag, and also consumed salt.
The MRC camp is known for its rigorous military training for youth from different states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The soldiers who had completed the training will now be sent to their assigned battalions across the country.
The new recruits marching majestically to the tune of the army music band was a veritable treat to the eyes and filled every Indian heart gathered there with pride.
Accepting the grand march past of the new soldiers, Brigadier R S Kuraiya honoured the soldiers who excelled during the 46-week training. Parents of the new recruits were also part of the event, beaming with pride and joy. Higher officials, Junior Officers and other soldiers were also present at the event.
The Madras Regiment is one of the oldest infantry regiment of the Indian Army, originating in the 1750s. The regiment took part in numerous campaigns with both the British Indian Army and the post-independence Indian Army. The MRC moved to Wellington in 1947 becoming the first Indian regiment to do so.
