Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old woman was fatally trampled by a wild elephant near house at a tribal settlement in the outskirts of the city on Friday.
Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old woman was fatally trampled by a wild elephant near house at a tribal settlement in the outskirts of the city on Friday.
The deceased was identified as R. Nanjammal, a daily laborer from the Pottapathi tribal settlement.
According to foresters, Nanjammal has ventured out of her house around 8.00Pm on friday to relieve herself in the open without noticing a wild elephant that was lurking near her house. As soon as she stepped outside, a wild tusker had attacked her and stampeded her.
She was rescued by her neighbours and was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in a 108 ambulance. Unfortunately, she succumbed on the way to the hospital.
Her mortal remains are kept at CMCH for autopsy.
An immediate compensation of Rs. 50,000 was handed over to Nanjammal’s family by foresters of the Boluvampati Forest Range.
Meanwhile, residents have Pottapathi have requested officials to drive away the wild elephant that reportedly ventures frequently out of the reserve.
