Coimbatore : Following the arrest of prime accused Mohammed Azharuddin, leader of the IS Module from Coimbatore, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been holding series of raids at the houses of his accomplices and nearby areas here.
Condemning the raids and demanding a fair probe, Islamic organisations and Islamic political outfits have jointly filed a complaint petition to the City Commissioner, Sumit Sharan here on Friday.
Alleging that in the name of investigation, the NIA has been raiding the residences in the night causing much distress and restlessness among the residents.
"We are highly co-operative and agree completely that people involved in terroist' activities should be arrested and punished. However, after the arrest of Mohammed Azharuddin, the NIA has intensified the raids and the news of such raids has defamed the community", the complaint said.
They also added that "During the searches, only digital devices and documents were seized by the NIA, however they have portrayed to have seized lethal weapons which has caused shock and embarrassment to the Islamic community and Islam people living in the City."
They alleged that such 'dubious' acts by the NIA has triggered suspicion among them. "While the Islamic community in the city is focussed on communal harmony, the series of ongoing raids have instilled fear and dubiousness among people of other communities", they noted in the complaint.
On June 12, the NIA arrested Mohammed Azharuddin, the head of IS Module for propagating the ideology of Zahran Hashim, one of the bombers involved in serial bomb blasts in Srilanka which killed nearly 300 people.
