The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested six men in the city suspecting connections with ISIS and had begun inspecting their residences and offices for more information. Mohammed Azharuddin from Coimbatore was confirmed to be part of ISIS and was arrested for further investigation.
Following the instructions of the NIA, the Police and Revenue Departments have been raiding the residences and offices of Shahjahan from Anbu Nagar, Hayabulla from Karumbukkadai and Mohammed Hussain from Vincent Road since yesterday. Later, the three men were taken to the PRS campus for a second round of investigation. The investigations revealed that they were part of the ISIS and supporters of Syrian extremists, and were spreading their beliefs and policies to corrupt youngsters using social media.
The Police has filed a case under the UAPA section and three more suspects have been arrested today. They are to be produced before the Court and jailed.
