Coimbatore : Forest officials have trapped a leopard that had been hunting domestic animals and pet dogs in the Methepalayam village in Mettupalayam.
The leopard had strayed into the village from the Sennamalai forest regions. Farmers had been wary of using pathways to fields fearing the leopard. After repeated requests by the villagers, the forest officials finally tracked the leopard using cameras and trapped the animal.
The Sirumugai forest officials had earlier placed the trap in the foothills of Sennamalai and the leopard was entrapped this morning. The team led by the Forest Guard Manoharan released the leopard immediately back into the Sathyamangalam forests, allowing the villagers in Methepalayam to breathe a sigh of relief.
