Coimbatore: DMK Chief, M K Stalin was in the city to pay tribute at an event for deceased DMK leaders M Ramanathan and K R Subbaiyan which was held in a private hall, on Tuesday. M K Stalin addressed the audience and paid tribute to the hard working and dedicated leaders of the DMK party.

He fondly remembered M Ramanathan as an astute party leader who was well-versed with party policies and was a staunch Tamil-enthusiast. He recalled how M Ramanathan had begun his political career as a District Secretary and then moved toward different positions within the party, always working with dedication toward the progress of the party and elected twice as MLA.
Paying tribute to K R Subbaiyan, M K Stalin reminisced that K R Subbaiyan though hailing from a humble family, worked his way toward success and joined the DMK while working as the Secretary in the Tamil Society, at the Law College in Tamil Nadu. He also recalled how K R Subbaiyan was introduced to Anna and participated in the protest to eliminate Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu. M K Stalin also said that Kalaignar Karunanidhi had led from front at K R Subbaiyan's wedding and also remembered the times when as a young lad, he was pampered by K R Subbaiyan whenever he visited Coimbatore.
During the event, M K Stalin also pointed out instances in the past where students and youngsters in Tamil Nadu protested against the imposition of the 'three language formula.' He reiterated that even with Prime Minister Modi being in his second tenure as the Prime Minister, he had stopping the 'three language formula' due to fear of such protests. He mentioned the role of M Ramanathan and K R Subbaiyan as principal leaders in the protest of 1965 and opined that this was an apt time to pay tribute to these leaders who fought against Hindi domination. He recalled how M Ramanathan was jailed for 10 months for leading this protest and had been jailed 27 times while protesting for the betterment of Tamil Nadu.
"M Ramanthan was responsible for the expansion of the Coimbatore-Aathupaalam road, Coimbatore-Bangalore Intercity, establishing the Nehru Stadium, good roads on the outskirts of Erode and Tiruppur and one of the important people in helping raise funds for Anbagam. K R Subbaiyan helped in developing several facilities in Stanley Hospital. While he was an MP, he completely used the funds allotted for his constituency with several developmental measures, especially building public toilets," recalled M K Stalin.
M K Stalin bereaved the absence of his father and DMK leader Karunanidhi at a time where the party had won a huge electoral battle resulting in victory for the DMK. He concluded by offering his deepest condolences to the family members of both deceased leaders.
