Coimbatore: River Bhavani in Mettupalayam is an important tributary of the river Cauvery and an important source of water for farmers and the residents of Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode.

In this scenario, a meeting was held in Delhi by the Cauvery Commission. The meeting was attended by the representative of the States that share Cauvery water like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry. Issues like sharing water resources among the states were discussed.

As a conclusion of this meeting, the Cauvery Regulatory Committee appointed a team to conduct a survey of the tributaries of river Cauvery and submit a report on the water inflow and outflow, as well as to monitor the tributary rivers frequently. A six-member Committee headed by Mohan Murali, the Engineer of the Central Water Authority Monitoring are in the process of surveying water flow in the States.
The six-member team surveyed the areas in Karnataka, Biligund and Mettur in Tamil Nadu where Cauvery water flows. In this scenario, the team inspected the four places in Mettupalayam where Bhavani river runs through. The survey was conducted from Bhavani Sagar Dam till Thekkampatti in Mettupalayam.
The team addressed the media saying that digital provisions are made to monitor the inflow and outflow of water in the tributaries of Cauvery from the Chennai and Bangalore offices and steps are taken to publish the details online. They also said that a detailed report would be submitted to the Central Government once the survey process ends.
