District Collector urges denizens to refrain from using Rapido Bike Taxi

Coimbatore: Based on the complaints registered against the Rapido bike taxis where rides are booked through the Rapido App, the Coimbatore District Collector and Joint Transport Commissioner of the Coimbatore area ordered a team of Coimbatore Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and the Police Department to seize these bike taxis that have been operating without permission.


Coimbatore: Through an communique, the District Collector has requested the public to refrain from using Rapido bike taxi which have been operating illegally in the city. 

Based on the complaints registered against the Rapido bike taxis where rides are booked through the Rapido App, the Coimbatore District Collector and Joint Transport Commissioner ordered a team of Coimbatore Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and the Police Department to seize bike taxis that have been operating without permission. 

Action upon the orders, the group of officials on the pretext of booking rides as customers on the Rapido App, seized 15 bike taxis in Race Course, Railway Junction, Women's Polytechnic and Gandhipuram. The bikes were handed over to the Regional Transport Office of Coimbatore. 

All these seized vehicles will be returned only after paying penalty in the Court. It is to be recalled that the city police had already seized 62 bike taxis earlier, based on the tip-off by auto drivers. 

Even on Monday, auto drivers from the city petitioned the District Collector to ban the usage of the Rapido taxi which has been affecting their livelihood by charging 1/3rd of the amount. They also requested that the district administration should create awareness among people that two wheeler taxis are not permitted to operate.
