Coimbatore: P R Natarajan, the MP of Coimbatore Constituency condemned the action of police officials who backed Power Grid officials in spite of objection from farmers in setting up High Power transmission towers. The Police Department not only helped the Power Grid officials to continue the land survey but also arrested the protestors.

In his report, P R Natarajan stated that the farmers are continuing to protest against setting up power transmission towers in the farmlands. "They had also strictly registered their objection during the time of consultation meetings. The power transmission towers set up before this had low-pressure power cables passing through the lands, whereas the power cables to be used now will carry a high voltage of 400 volts. The farmers are insecure about their livelihood and have reported the same to the officials," he added.
P R Natarajan accused the Power Grid officials of combining with the State Government and Police Department to carry out their project. "The farmers were subjected to assault, arrest and imprisonment. This action of the State Government doesn't look like a Democratic Government. The people of Sulur selected the AIADMK for their constituency in the recent elections but are now accusing the ruling party of troubling the people who made them win," he alleged. P R Natarajan also condemned the State Government for misusing the Police Department against farmers. "Release the arrested farmers without any condition," demanded the MP P R Natarajan.
