Coimbatore : In a collaborative conservation work with the members of the Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation and Education (CUBE), 50 personnel of the 105 Battalion Rapid Action Force (RPF) planted native saplings on the bunds of the Singanallur Lake, today.
Coimbatore : In a collaborative conservation work with the members of the Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation and Education (CUBE), 50 personnel of the 105 Battalion Rapid Action Force (RPF) planted native saplings on the bunds of the Singanallur Lake, today.
As a part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the planting drive saw RPF jawans plant native saplings at the Arboretum of Engendered Trees at the lakeside. The Arboretum of endangered tress was inaugurated at the lakeside on June 5 by the Commissioner of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, Sravan Kumar Jatavath.
As much as 600 saplings belonging to nearly 100 species of trees were planted on the day. Of the 100 species, 23 including Malabar Ironwood, Rusty Acacia, Indian Rosewood, Queen Sago Tree, Lanceleaf Vatica, Wight’s Sago Palm and East Indian Satin Wood belong to the list of endangered trees. These saplings would be regularly looked after by the volunteers of CUBE to be preserved at a time when members of their fellow species are dying.
Rajesh Dogra, the Deputy Commandant of 105 Battalion RAF, R I Harikrishnan, Assistant Commandant of the same battalion and members of CUBE participated in the planting drive.
