The Nilgiris: Even though the curtains came down on May 31 on the annual tourist season, it is reported that over two lakh tourists continued to make a beeline for the Queen of Hills to enjoy the bliss of nature.

The annual summer festival in Ooty is usually from May 1 to May 31 and this year the influx of tourists increased. According to the tourist department officials, over 10 lakh tourists thronged the Botanical Garden, Dodabetta, Shooting Point, Lamb's Rock, Dolphin's Nose and other tourist spots.

In spite of the tourist season ending, on an average about 18,000 tourists per day visit Ooty's tourist spots. It is recorded that almost two lakh tourists have visited Ooty in the last ten days, from June 1 to 10. Officials opine that some tourists prefer to visit Ooty in June to enjoy the salubrious climate even as monsoon sets in and to avoid the melee of the summer tourists.
