Coimbatore: In a bid to increase the 'Green cover' in the city, Chandran’s Yuva foundation had initiated steps to realise their dream on the World Environment day.
The initiative titled 'Kasthuri Vanam' - Go green and grow green was flagged off by District Collector, K.Rajamani in the presence of Superintendent of Police, Sujith Kumar, district, Dr Manimekalai Mohan, Founder and Managing Trustee of SSVM institutions.
This environmental day initiative was kick started by a tree sapling program at Noyyal River side in Vellalore at SSVM world school in Coimbatore on Monday.

According to the press release from the Chandrans yuva foundation, "Global warming, low rainfall and other environmental degradation is increasing everyday. Hence, it is important to increase the green cover by planting more saplings where ever possible. In this initiative, we have pooled in organizations, education institutions, NGOs and volunteers to join hands for developing a tree sapling nursery to execute the project."
The go green initiative was designed and was executed by the C Sivanesan, Founder and Managing Trustee and S Shasikala, Chairperson and CEO of Chandrans Yuva foundation, Coimbatore.
Speaking to Press and Media, S Shasikala, CEO of Chandrans Yuva foundation recalled the various activities carried out by their NGO like cleaning Ukkadam Bus stand, Painting the walls, Skill development program for Women prisoners among others.
She added that they are developing a tree sapling nursery at Prison campus to expand their vision on the go green concept.
