Today, being Grievances Day at the Collectorate, residents from Kaalimangalam submitted a petition to stop the construction of 600 houses which are being built to house over 2000 people by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board.
The residents requested for the construction to be stopped immediately since the area already has elephants straying into the neighborhood and the addition of thousands of people in the area will cause environmental violation and will also add to the animal-human conflict. Hence, in their petition to the District Collector, the residents requested for a better plan to be implemented for houses to save the forest cover and wildlife in Kaalimangalam.
