Coimbatore: A woman victim in the city petitioned the District Collector stating that her livelihood was at stake due to her health condition caused by wrong treatment administered by a lady doctor. She requested the Collector to take immediate action against the doctor and help her in getting compensation from the doctor.
Coimbatore: Ganesan (37), a security guard at the GKNM hospital lives at Papanaickenpalayam with his wife Bhuvaneswari (30) and child Ragunath (3).
Since his wife had health issues pertaining to her uterus for the past few days, she was taken to a gynecologist named Chandrakala at Genesis Rayal Infirmary on October 11, 2018. The doctor had previously worked with GKNM Hospital. Bhuvaneswari was suggested a surgery to remove her uterus on November 16, 2018 at a cost of Rs.60,000. After being admitted in Hindustan Hospital for the operation, a lakh rupees was again collected in addition to the charges previously paid. When the abdominal pain continued even after the surgery, Bhuvaneswari consulted Dr. Chandrakala who asked her to continue the antibiotics course for a few more days, until the pain ceases. Noticing that Bhuvaneswari's condition was worsening with every passing day, she was admitted at the ESI Hospital.
Scan results revealed that there was a gauze piece inside her stomach, which was then removed by a surgery. When she began having issues with passing stools, a scan was taken again where it was found that her fistula was damaged. She was advised to be shifted immediately to Stanley Hospital in Chennai. On consulting Dr.Chandrakala again and reporting her health conditions, Dr. Chandrakala and her husband reportedly were verbally abusive toward Bhuvaneswari and ousted her out of the clinic with the help of their security guard. Bhuvaneswari was then taken to Stanley Hospital and admitted in the in-patients ward for the operation. With phase one of the operation done, she is reported to be partly alright.
A complaint was lodged at C-2 police station in Race Course against Dr. Chandrakala on May 6 but since no legal action had been initiated on the doctor, the family approached the Disctrict Collectorate with tears and filed a petition. They requested the Collector to take action against Dr. Chandrakala and help them in getting compensation from the doctor, alleging that they had incurred heavy financial losses during the period of multiple surgeries due to which Bhuvaneswari could not work and hence could not enroll their child in a school owing to lack of finances.
