Coimbatore : Acting on a tip off, Special officer and Tahsildhar of Pollachi taluk along with officials from Pollachi Civil Supplies seized a two-wheeler smuggling ration rice to Kerala on Saturday.
Seeing the officials involved in a surprise check near Thimanguthu near Pollachi, two persons in a two-wheeler abandoned the vehicle and escaped. The officials found several sacks of ration rice weighing around 450 kgs being smuggled to Kerala.
"The inspection was held upon the orders of District Collector, K. Rajamani to the District Supply Officer, Kumaresan who assigned a team under his direct supervison. The team will conduct surprise checks and tighten vigil at TN-Kerala borders to nab rice smugglers", said Tahsildhar Sivakumar.
