Upon investigation, it was found that the offender has been overstaying on his student visa which had expired two years ago. The Sulur police arrested him and sent him to Coimbatore central prison.
The arrested Sudanese national has been identified as Mohammed Eesha (25) and hails from Noyali in Sudan. He came to Tirupur in 2012 with a five year student visa and has been over staying here even after his visa expired in 2017.
He was caught on Saturday while he attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a woman in SLV Nagar in Sulur.. The public have alleged that the police have failed to keep an eye on Sudanese and Nigerians in Tirupur and Sulur, as many of them have been living illegally even after expiry of their visas.
Those who are overstaying on expired visas indulge in robbery and burglary attempts in the outskirts, allege the residents of Sulur.
The public have jointly requested the Sulur police to conduct regular check on these foreign nationals and ensure if they carry all valid travel documents.
