The Nilgiris: With NIPAH virus spreading across different parts of Kerala, health officials are seen inspecting at the Gudalur tollgate to screen people crossing the Tamil Nadu-Kerala borders.
Tourists visiting Ooty and Coonoor need to pass by this toll gate and are being educated through a pamphlet about the NIPAH virus and the prevention measures to be taken against it. Health officials also instructed the tourists to wash the fruits that are bought from the roadside and not to consume them if they discover a bird-bite on them.
Almost all seven toll gates in this area are being inspected now. Along with the health officials, a team of doctors and Revenue Department officials are involved in this inspection.
