CM assures Salem-Chennai 8-lane project will be implemented

Salem: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palaniswami assured Salem residents that the Salem-Chennai 8-lane project will be implemented soon.

Salem: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palaniswami assured Salem residents that the Salem-Chennai eight-lane project will be implemented soon.

Edappadi Palaniswami inaugurated a two-tiered 320-crore estimated bridge. He assured that within six months, the construction of the second tier of the bride too will begin. The DMK MP, S R Parthiban and the Salem North DMK MP A Rajendran also took part in the function. "After getting a positive result from the Court, the eight-lane project between Salem-Chennai will now be initialized soon. It is not a project suggested by any individual but a Government project. The Government will not invade anyone's land for this project. He also assured that Tamil Nadu will soon be the No.1 state in roadways. A bus port sprawling across 60 acres land is likely to be built near Salem. Measures are also being implemented to reduce traffic issues," reiterated the CM.

The proposed highway aims to cut down travel time between Chennai and Salem but met with massive protests across the State in May last year. The highways project, initiated under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme, aims to add to the three already existing routes between the two districts. However, with several acres of agricultural land being affected, the project was opposed by farmers, activists and opposition parties. In April this year, the Madras High Court said that the benefits of the project were 'illusory', scrapping land acquisition proceedings.
