Coimbatore: Activists and officials from the Revenue Department joined hands in preserving a 20-year-old Thoonguvaagai tree at Cheranmanagar which was being axed, on Thursday.
Coimbatore: Activists and officials from the Revenue Department joined hands in preserving a 20-year-old Thoonguvaagai tree at Cheranmanagar which was being axed, on Thursday.
According to K Syed from Osai, he received a call from Chandrasekar, a member of Siruthuli regarding a tree being axed in order to give way for a construction. Some men attempted to cut the tree without informing officials, in spite of the tree being on public property. On receiving the information, Syed immediately informed the Revenue Tahsildar who in turn alerted his subordinates, immediately.
“Officials immediately intervened and confronted the people involved in axing the tree, thus being able to save the tree," said Syed.
Lauding the efforts of various people in the rescue of a single tree, Syed said that such responsibility should be present in everyone in society to aid conservation of trees.
