Coimbatore: Residents in Siddhapudur who heard the cry of an infant from a bush, rushed to rescue the infant.
The infant was rescued from a bush in Annapoorna Layout of Siddhapudur near Gandhipuram by residents who also informed the Katoor police. On investigation, the police found out that an unmarried woman named Ilakya who stayed in the house of Manonmani was admitted in the hospital yesterday for reportedly being unwell. Manomani alleges that she had no clue about whether Ilakya delivered a baby.
Manonmani has reportedly told the police that Ilakya had come to stay in her place on the pretext of joining a private concern for work, but she had found Ilakya in a pool of blood in the bathroom and hence sent her immediately to the Government Hospital through 108 ambulance. The police are further investigating Manonmani and Ilakya. The infant has been admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.
In the last few years, abandoning newborns along the roadside or in garbage bins has been on the rise. While some blame poor financial backgrounds of families, most cases of abandonment are an outcome of the babies being born illegitimate.
