The petition included requests to regulate existing passenger services between Madurai and Coimbatore as permanent, a new Madurai to Coimbatore fast passenger service using Nilgiris rakes and the restoration of the Coimbatore-Quilon service.
K Shanmugasundaram also mentioned in his petition to restore the night train between Coimbatore and Rameshwaram via Pollachi, Palani and Madurai. He also asked for laying of new railway tracks and improved facilities in Udumalapettai station with a two-wheeler stand, waiting hall for passengers and goods shed for freight traffic.
