After the meeting held by the Transport Ministry today, M R Vijayabasker addressed the press and revealed details on the agreement made with C40, the international organization with whom the Tamil Nadu Government is planning to introduce new electric buses in cities like Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore.

In an effort to reduce environmental pollution, the Tamil Nadu Government had signed an agreement on March 2018 and approved the process to introduce electric buses. Later on at the budget meeting held in February 2019, the Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam had confirmed the introduction of 500 electric buses in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore respectively. Following this, he also revealed that the Tamil Nadu Government had made an agreement with the German bank to introduce 12,000 new buses and 2000 electric buses in the State. 

Also, a project plan to build charging points and electric tracks in the city had been prepared and was under scrutiny. Vijayabasker hence confirmed the introduction of 1500 electric buses in the State in the near future.
