World Environment Day observed with a meaningful message at Coimbatore Railway Station

Coimbatore: The Southern Railways staff at the Coimbatore railway station along with Aram Foundation and Roots geared up to celebrate World Environment Day in a meaningful way by campaigning to create awareness among people on preserving environment.

Coimbatore: The Southern Railways staff at the Coimbatore railway station along with Aram Foundation and Roots geared up to celebrate World Environment Day in a meaningful way by campaigning to create awareness among people on preserving environment. 



The event was focused on creating an awareness on tree plantations, plastic ban and maintaining a clean Coimbatore. About 100 volunteers from Southern Railways, Aram Foundation, Roots and the general public gathered at the Coimbatore railway station.



The event started with a pledge to protect the environment and then a rally was held on the railway platforms at the Coimbatore railway station to create awareness. Further, they planted tree saplings at the RPS office in Coimbatore.



Traditional folk music was played in front of the railway station to hold the attention of passengers and public. A mime show on the importance of trees and plastic ban was also held. The students of Ramakrishna Engineering College and other volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive by collecting waste strewn around at the railway station premises. A drawing competition on 'World Environment Day' was also conducted for the students who took part in the event. The event organisers, in a noble gesture of care presented roses to the sanitary workers at the railway station.



The event was headed by Sathish Saravanan, Station Director, Southern Railways. Others present at the event were Latha Sundaram, Aram Foundation and other representatives from Roots.
