Coimbatore: Flagging off a rally on this World Environment day, District Collector K. Rajamani appealed to the citizens of Coimbatore to join hands to protect the vast bio-diversity and greenery of this city.
The rally was organised by Ambal Auto at Race Course here on Wednesday.
The event was flagged off by the Collector in the presence of Chairman of Ambal Auto, Asokan Muthuchami and District Revenue Officer, Ramadurai Murugan.
The Collector distributed saplings to the joggers and walkers at Race Course. He stressed that citizen participation is pivotal to increase the green cover of the city.
"It's the duty of every resident of Coimbatore to preserve the environment and contribute to the green cover", he opined.
Asokan from Ambal Auto pointed out that the auto Industry should also contribute to address the environmental crisis.
The participants held placards with inspiring lines "Maram Naduvom, Mazhai Peruvom" (Let's plant trees and bring rain).
"A car painted with greenery and trees will tour the city to sensitize the public", said the organisers.
