Coimbatore: About 10 domestic dogs that belonged to the residents of Kurinji Nagar, Sabari Garden and other nearby areas of Kuttaiyur in Mettupalayam died on the same day, causing panic among residents who feared burglary was being planned in the area.

Muthusamy, a resident of the area said that unidentified men have crept into the areas at night and thrown poisoned meat pieces into the residential areas. The dogs that consumed the meat died one after another this morning. The residents immediately informed the Karamadai Panchayat about the incident. Panchayat officials have taken the corpses of the dogs for further investigation.
Residents voiced their fears saying individual houses in the locality have been targeted for robbery and hence the dogs which could disrupt the plan have been done away with. Residents also alleged that there have been theft cases in these apartments earlier and hence it becomes imperative for the police to quickly take action to nab the culprits for the safety of the locality.
