Coimbatore: "The undue delay in obtaining the no-objection certificate (NOC) from Kerala government for constructing dams across Nalaru and Anamalayar rivers has put the long-awaited project at bay. While the Anamalayar-Nallaru project is regarded to provide a promising solution for the increasing water crisis among the farming community in the Kongu region, the State government's failure to expedite the process has caused concern among the farmers", said P.R. Natarajan, MP from Coimbatore Constituency.
Through an official statement, the newly sworn-in MP has called for action to realize the project with a joint representation of MPs from Pollachi, Tirupur and Erode.

"Threat of acute water scarcity is largely reported in Sultanpettai, Pongalur, Udumalaipettai and Madathukulam villages. The farmers are hugely hit by water crisis and are unable to pursue agriculture. Over the years, the farmers are completely dependent on the Parambikulam - Aliyar Project (PAP) for irrigation", the MP noted.
He pointed that proposal to construct dams across Nallaru and Anamalayar rivers has been delayed over 40 years. And the State government accusing Kerala for not signing the NOC for realising the project is unacceptable.
The MP recalled that during the recent election campaign, the Chief Minister had promised to realize the
Anamalayar-Nallaru project
with immediate effect. Hence, steps should be stimulated to hold talks with the Kerala Government and move things swiftly.
He revealed that he would be holding talks with Shanmugasundaram, MP from Pollachi constituency, K. Subbarayan from Tirupur and Ganeshamoorthy from Erode to hold a comprehensive meeting with the representatives of the farming community of the region on June 30.
"After their consent, elaborate details of the meeting will be announced", he noted.
