Coimbatore : Irked by frequent power cuts, the residents of Saravanampatti and adjacent areas have alleged that the power disruptions which vary between 10-12 hours a day has affected their daily life.

Alleging the TNEB for ignoring their plights, the residents of Saravanampatti, Amman Kovil, Krishnapuram, Ganapathy and Vilankurichi and nearby areas demand immediate redressal.

The residents noted that they have been experiencing power outages 7-10 times a day, especially the power disruptions in the nights is the worst.

"The authorities have left us suffer at large, as they hardly pay heed over the issue. The toll-free number of TNEB to register grievances is also not reachable", alleged Jai Sudhan a resident of Nehru Nagar, Ganapathy.

He noted that there was complete power shutdown for the whole night for the past three days in his area. "Adding to the woes, intermittent power cuts during the daytime has worsened the situation", he opined.

Goutham Raj, a working IT professional from Saravanampatti said "Over a week, uninformed power disruptions have affected our daily life. Due to power cuts in the night, we are unable to sleep peacefully which in turn affects our work the next day. Due to mounds of uncleaned garbage, mosquitoes are already a major issue in our area. With power cuts in the night, we are unable to battle with the mosquitoes. Children and the elderly are the worst affected."

He also alleged that the cold response from the officials from TNEB irks them even more.

Seconding him, Shanthi, a home maker from Amman Kovil area also alleged that no prior information was given to the residents regarding power cuts. "For the past five days, we are experiencing 5-10 power cuts per day. Especially power cuts in the nights has left us sleepless. With schools about to re-open, power cuts of this intensity will affect the children", she lamented.

Commenting on the issue, TNEB Assistant Engineer from Saravanampatti said " The power disruption is due to a technical fault in one of the main transformer in Saravanampatti. Lack of lubrication in the 25-year old transformer has resulted in power disruptions in certain areas around Saravanampatti."

"We are working on the issue, on priority. Within 2-3 days the issue will be sorted out", he assured.
