The technical session on 'Kitchen Garden' was conducted by Dr. A Sankari, Associate Professor, (Department of Vegetable Crops) who explained the importance of vegetables and kitchen gardening, organic farming and government subsidy on terrace gardening.
Dr R Sunitha, the Assistant Professor (Department of Environment Science) addressed the camp participants on ‘Preparation of Vermicompost.' She elucidated the character of the earthworm, solid waste management and the method of preparation of vermicompost. In another session, Dr N Thavaprakash, the Associate Professor (Department of Agronomy) explained the 'Modern Techniques in Agricultural Production.' He highlighted the importance of crop rotation, green leaf manure and crop selection criteria. He also emphasized, "Feed the soil, not the crop." The children from villages in the area actively participated in several cultural programs.
