Coimbatore : With the model code of conduct in effect in Coimbatore owing to the Sulur by-election that is to be held on May 19, the flying squad seized Rs 298,90,920 in Coimbatore.
On account of the Sulur by-election, as per orders from the Election Commission, 30 flying squads had been appointed with three teams for each constituency. 30 static surveillance teams had also been appointed to monitor round the clock. A total of 20 teams with two for each constituency have also been appointed to monitor the election campaign. In the flying squad team, a total of 30 teams with 180 officials and 30 teams with 150 officials are on constant vigil.
With the model code of conduct in effect, people who carry more than Rs.50,000 with them are required to possess appropriate documents. In the search held today, officials seized Rs.298,90,920 of which Rs.2,00,350 has been returned when necessary documents were submitted.
