CPI (M) request TN Governor to release the seven convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case

Coimbatore: The CPI (M) has petitioned the Tamil Nadu Governor requesting the quick release of the seven life convicts who were sentenced in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Coimbatore: The CPI (M) has petitioned the Tamil Nadu Governor requesting the quick release of the seven life convicts who were sentenced in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The petition states, “The Supreme Court today dismissed the petitions filed regarding the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, including Perarivalan, Murugan and Nalini. This judgement has come after the Supreme Court’s political bench has clearly mentioned in their judgement of this case, previously. Hence, there is no case pending in the Court regarding their release. The Supreme Court has given a judgment stating that the Tamil Nadu government has the complete right to release the seven convicts and the Government can suggest this to the Governor.

Even after the Tamil Nadu government has passed a resolution and sent it to the Governor, there was no action taken due to the interference of the Modi government. Hence, the Tamil Nadu Government should insist to the Governor that he orders for the release of the seven convicts who have been spending their lives in the prison for more than two decades. We also request the Governor to consider the plea of the TN government and release the seven convicts."
