Coimbatore: With the ban on single-use plastic implemented since January 1, 2019 in in the city, Coimbatore Corporation has been taking stringent action against violators.
Regular raids have been conducted by officials and violators have been fined. Raids were again conducted today in the West and North Zone and a considerable quantity of banned plastic and non-woven covers were seized. At the Mettupalayam road Anna market, officials seized 250 kgs of banned plastic covers and a fine of Rs.15000 was imposed on the violators.
In the North Zone, at ward No.44, a raid was conducted and officials seized 6 kg of banned plastic and non-woven covers. A fine of Rs.5000 was imposed. Speaking on this, a senior Corporation official said, “In spite of our continuous raids, there are still traders who continue to use banned plastic and non-woven covers. This is quite common in the market areas and the flower market. Today, we saw the same at the Anna market. CCMC will take these violations as serious offence and a hefty fine will be imposed on those violating the rules. We urge the public not to encourage such traders when they give them their goods in banned plastic or non-woven covers. Only if people start refusing, the traders will stop using such banned products," reiterated the official.
With the ban on single-use plastic implemented since January 1, 2019 in in the city, Coimbatore Corporation has been taking stringent action against violators. Since the imposition of the ban till date, CCMC has seized 11928 kgs of plastic and imposed a total fine of Rs.11,23,810 on the violators.
