Coimbatore: Upon the orders from District Collector, K. Rajamani, officials from the Food Safety Department led by Officer, Vijayalalithambigai, formed teams to conduct raids at several locations in the city to check for artificially ripened fruits

During their raids at Ukkadam, Gandhipuram, Sulur, Mettupalayam and Pollachi areas on Monday, they found that mangoes and other seasonal fruits were ripened artificially using Ethylin powder.

Around 489 kgs of mangoes and 1,110 kgs of other fruits were seized from 68 fruit shops. The worth of the fruits was estimated as Rs. 45,000/-.

Later, the seized fruits were destroyed.
