Coimbatore : Social activists and the public have requested the police to intensify night patrolling, as after burglars continue to target locked houses in many localities in the city. Ever since the holiday season began for schools, there has been a spate of thefts in the houses of the citizens who may have moved out on a holiday or gone out to their home towns.

Two such incidents have been reported in the city at Venkitapuram and Kuniamuthur, where burglars have targeted locked houses and escaped with jewels and cash.
On April 30, Palanisamy (50) a resident of Venkitapuram here along with his family left to Salem. On Sunday morning, when he arrived to his home, he found his house door broken. It is reported that 15 sovereign of gold and Rs. 1 lakh cash had gone missing from his home. Later, Palanisamy filed a complaint with the Saibaba Colony police station.
In yet another burglary at Sugunapuram in Kuniamuthur, Younis Khan (38) and his family left to Chennai on May 1. On Sunday when he returned back, he learnt that his house has been burgled. He reportedly has lost 10 sovereign of gold and Rs. 40,000 cash. A complaint has been registered in Kuniamuthur police station.
The series of burglary targeting locked houses in the city limits has panicked the people who are skeptical to leave their houses for vacation. The public opine that the police should increase the night patrolling, until the vacation season gets over.
