Coimbatore : In an attempt to strengthen the bund of the Chinnavedapatti Lake and control soil erosion on the bunds, members of the Chinnavedapatti Lake Restoration Team along with CTS have started planting vetiver on the bunds of the lake here.
Coimbatore : In an attempt to strengthen the bund of the Chinnavedapatti Lake and control soil erosion on the bunds, members of the Chinnavedapatti Lake Restoration Team along with CTS have started planting vetiver on the bunds of the lake here.
According to organisers, it is being tried out on a small piece of the bund as a pilot project and would be carried out in all parts based on its success.
“Vetiver has worked successfully in strengthening the bunds of rivers and avoiding soil erosion on railway tracks. It would be a natural solution to soil erosion,” said an organiser.
As a part of the lake restoration activity, the volunteers have also fenced saplings planted near the Rajavaikkal and other areas in the lake with the support of Robert Bosch.
The duo has further partnered in planting vetiver on the bunds of Rajavaikkal between Kanuvai and Chinnavedapatti and also setting up live fences to protect the lake.
