Chennai: The state government has filed an affidavit on Saturday seeking more time to conduct the local body elections which was supposed to be conducted in October 2016.
The undue delay by the state government has left all ward works stalled across the State. And, every time the State government has been citing reasons seeking more time, thus showing the inability of the government to speed up the process.
The state government in today's affidavit has claimed that as all the officials are held up in the ongoing Parliamentary elections, they could complete the delimitation of wards. Hence, the State government in it's affidavit has sought more time for finishing the delimitation work.
Earlier, the court had ordered the TN Election Commission to inform the dates of the local body election dates by May 2019. The TN EC had replied that as the State government is yet to complete the delimitation works the election could not be carried by May.
