Coimbatore : "The ongoing construction work of setting up a multilevel two-wheeler parking at Coimbatore Railway will be completed by this month end, without further delays”, said a senior official from the railways.
Coimbatore railway station comes under the jurisdiction of Salem division of Southern railways. More than 70 trains pass through the station benefiting more than 25,000 passengers, on a daily basis.
Especially public who use passenger trains to Tirupur, Pollachi, Salem and Erode on a daily basis park their two-wheeler at the parking lot allotted at the station, which presently is 'choked' and unable to accommodate two-wheelers.
The increasing parking woes has led to unruly parking and people callously park their no parking areas and free space.
To address the issue, in 2018 the multi-level two wheeler parking project was launched by the Salem division of Southern railways at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.1 crore. The project, which was expected to be opened for public use by February 2019 was delay due to various reasons.
Meanwhile, the Railway authorities here have assured that the construction work of the multi-level two wheeler parking will be completed by this month end and 800 two-wheelers can be parked at the same time.
