Coimbatore: Officials have seized 982.5 kg of plastics in the raids conducted in various places in the district, in the past 11 days.

On January 1, the State Government had passed an order banning 14 types of single-use plastics. Following this, the district administration initiated measures to curb plastic usage. As part of the measure, based on the orders from Corporation Commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath, health department officials and workers conducted raids at various places in the city, including Gandhipuram, Vadavalli, Sathi Road, RS Puram and Flower Market from April 22 till May 2.
In the raid that was held in 3,369 shops, a total of 982.5 kg of plastics were confiscated. Shop owners who used these banned plastics have been levied fines, accounting to a total of Rs. 4.73 lakhs.

In today's raid, 34 kg of plastic covers were confiscated from 174 shops and the owners were levied fines accounting to a total of Rs.38,100.
