The Nilgiris : A man from Manjakombai near Ooty was arrested on Thursday, after the trap he set to capture a wild boar killed a leopard.
Rajendran hailing from Manjakombai decided to set a trap for a wild boar that has been destroying his farm land. On Wednesday night, his neighbours heard the grunt of a leopard from his farmland and alerted the forest department.
When the forest officials arrived at the spot, they found a leopard dead in the trap. Following which, they arrested Rajendran for setting the trap which led to the death of the leopard.
The forest officials warned the people to refrain from setting traps for wild boars, as it is against the forest laws. And, also sensitized them that such trap could turn as death traps for other wild animals like leopards.
