Coimbatore : DGP (Election) Asutosh Shukla undertook a detailed inspection of security measures done thus far for the Sulur by-election. The DGP inspected all the measures taken for the Sulur by-election and instructed police officials and the CRPF to ensure proper protection and prevent any untoward incidents during the election. He also suggested appointing sufficient number of CRPF personnel as per the situation on Election Day.

IGP Seshayee (Election), Periyayya (West zone IGP), Karthikeyan (DIG, Coimbatore jurisdiction), Sujithkumar (SP, Coimbatore), Kayalvizhi (SP, Tiruppur), Balaji Saravanan (ACP, Coimbatore) and other police officials participated in the meeting.
A total number of 4123 police personnel are to be deployed for security for the Sulur by-election to be held on May 19. 324 polling booths have been set up in 121 places. 9 flying squads and 9 static surveillance teams have been formed. 32 polling booths are identified as vulnerable booths, including 26 in Coimbatore district, 4 in Coimbatore Corporation and 2 in Tiruppur district, with more focus given to these areas.
374 pending remand cases under Sulur jurisdiction police stations from April 9–30 were cleared. 50 persons were identified as possible threats to the law and order situation and public peace, during the election. Proper action was taken against them, with strict monitoring by the police after getting a security bond signed by them. Also, the DGP suggested that action be taken against anyone who could be a threat to public. 10 accused were imprisoned under the Goondas Act, this year in Coimbatore district.
Vehicle inspection is conducted at 35 check posts, which includes 25 in Coimbatore district, 4 in Coimbatore city and 6 in Tiruppur district. Elaborate arrangements have been undertaken to beef up security for a peaceful conduct of elections, without any law and order problems. Officials have been ordered to take action against any kind of election-related complaints without bias. Pickets, Rapid Action Force, police officials and guards have been instructed to frequently patrol spots that have been identified as vulnerable, and to take necessary steps to ensure that public vote independently without any fear. They were also ordered to take necessary precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents on the day of election. The election control room is established and all electoral activities are on at full swing, and being monitored effectively.
