Nilgiris : Even as thousands of tourists arrive at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve every day, the elephant rides and safari rides are the most sought after in Mudumalai. Earlier, the elephant rides in Mudumalai were scheduled in the mornings and evenings with just two kumki elephants. Many tourists were unable to book a ride.

But, this year, for the very first time, the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve brought in six kumki elephants for the purpose of offering more rides to the tourists. With regard to this, special training was provided to Shankar, Udhayan, Vijay, Indhar, Sumankala and Bomman. Hence, elephant rides will now be offered 24 times per day, giving tourists a reason to rejoice. Commenting on this, the Theppakadu Booking Centre range officer Vijay said, "Earlier, two elephants were used for elephant rides, with two rides in the morning and two rides in the evening, due to which many tourists were unable to go for a ride. But now we are using six elephants for the ride which has garnered good reception from the tourists. Rs.120 is collected per ride," he added.
