Ahead of the Sulur byelection which is to be conducted on May 19, the filing of nominations began on April 22 and ended on April 29. A total of 61 candidates had filed their nominations. Meanwhile, review of the nominations took place today which was headed by the Electoral Officer, Balakrishnan.
Nominations of DMK candidate Pongalur Palanisamy, AIADMK candidate Kandasamy, AMMK candidate Sugumar, MNM candidate Mayilsami and Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Vijayaragavan have been accepted. 39 other nominations were rejected.
May 2 is the last day to withdraw nominations, following which the final list of candidates for the Sulur by-elections will be released.
