Coimbatore : In a major twist to the Muthoot Finance robbery case, the police have arrested a female staff and her lover Suresh in connection with the robbery at Muthoot Finance. The police have also retrieved 804 sovereign of gold ornaments that was looted from the shop on April 27.
In the incident that took place on April 27, masked men who entered the Muthoot Finance at Ramanathapuram here burgled Rs.2 crore-worth of gold that weighed 804 sovereigns and Rs.1 lakh cash. Based on the orders from the City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan, five specials teams were formed headed by Deputy Commissioner, Perumal.
The team investigated workers at the office. Renuka (26) wife of John Peter and Divya (24) of Kembatti Colony were also questioned. While examining the CCTV footage of the robbery, it was evident that none of the workers were attacked at the time of the heist.
In the investigation with Renuka and Divya, it was found that both had different perspectives and their answers were contradicting one another. Since it was apparent that outside persons could not be aware of the Rs.2 crore jewels in the shop, the police suspected that the heist could not have taken place without the aid of the workers. The police also grew suspicious over the frequent phone calls to Renuka Devi's number.
Based on the investigation conducted on Renuka Devi, the police arrested Suresh (32) of Kembatti Colony. Though he was already married, it is suspected that he developed a friendship with Renuka Devi which later turned into an illicit relationship.
Renuka Devi who fell prey to the conspiracy of Suresh aided him in the burglary. The police arrested Suresh and recovered the 804 sovereign gold and the money that was burgled. The police have also arrested Renuka Devi, and are on the lookout for the others who aided them in the burglary.
