Coimbatore : A visually-impaired destitute old woman of Telangana who had been staying in the Coimbatore Corporation 'night stay house' since 2016 was reunited with her son in an unexpectedly emotional turn of events.
Coimbatore : A visually-impaired destitute old woman of Telangana who had been staying in the Coimbatore Corporation 'night stay house' since 2016 was reunited with her son in an unexpectedly emotional turn of events.
On April 22, 2016, the Human Trafficking Prevention Police Wing rescued visually-impaired Sangaramma (58) from the streets of Coimbatore and handed her over to the R S Puram night stay hostel. She lived there for almost two and a half years. She had been constantly saying that her native was Kamaretti of Telangana. Hence, information was passed regarding this to the Telangana Police Department. Based on this information, the police were finally able to trace Sangaramma's family who were residing in Telangana Devanapalli jurisdiction.
The Telangana police brought Sangaramma’s son Ramesh to Coimbatore with proper documents. Both mother and son rejoiced at being reunited after more than two years. After accepting a request letter from Ramesh, the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner handed over Sangaramma to her son. She had been staying under the protection of the Coimbatore Corporation for over two years.
The District Human Trafficking Prevention Police Wing, the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, Malarum Vizhigal voluntary organization and the caretaker of the stay house, K Gangadharan were thanked during the handing over of Sangaramma to her son.
