Coimbatore : In a miraculous escape, a man and his grandson escaped with minor injuries after a mother elephant attacked both of them while they were fleeing from the elephant calf which had strayed into the shed they were sleeping in, at Mayil Chambers in Periya Thadagam, here on Saturday.
The incident occurred when Iyannan (52) and his grandson Guna (6) where sleeping inside the shed of Mayil Chambers. Since elephants cannot enter sheds, the workers of brick kiln chambers were using these sheds as shelters during the night to stay safe from elephant attacks.

However, an elephant calf managed to enter the shed, causing the grandfather and grandson to flee from the shed. Unfortunately, the mother elephant that was outside the shed attacked both. While Iyannan sustained injuries on his legs, Guna sustained injuries near his hip. Hearing the commotion, forest officials were called in for help. They managed to chase the elephants back into the Reserve though the elephants were intent on damaging a shed nearby.
The injured duo were immediately taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, forest officials have requested the public to make use of the toll free number - 180042545456 in case of elephant emergencies.
