“The ruling party along with the Election Commission planned to stop the by-polls which were already scheduled to be held," alleged R S Bharathy. “In this independent India, DMK is the party which obtained permission from the Court to conduct the by-polls. The ruling party is looking for shortcuts and the Madurai incident is one such example. Even though the ruling party spends more money, only DMK will win in the Sulur constituency. Especially the negative wave against Modi and Edappadi which prevailed during the parliamentary elections will continue in the by-polls too. We have accepted Stalin as our leader after Kalaignar’s demise and we are operating as a cohesive party, in an organised manner,” he added.
Commenting on the selection of candidates for by-polls, R S Bharathy said, “Only AIADMK is confused in selecting their candidates, especially for Minister Velumani and Thangamani. We have announced our candidates without any difference of opinion.”
On the Madurai incident involving Tahsildar Sampoornam, "He is a good officer but was targeted on purpose. We came to know that the Madurai District Collector had asked for 10-15 people but none of them accepted. But Tahsildhar Sampoornam went to the place where the EVMs were placed. Knowing that he was to be promoted as the Deputy Collector soon, he was targeted by the ruling party. But DMK will stand by him and support him. I request the media's support too in this matter," urged R S Bharathy.
