Coimbatore: A fire pot procession by devotees who wish to fulfill their vows is scheduled to be held on the occasion of Dhandumariamman Temple festival on April 24.
The procession will start from Koniamman temple by 6 am and pass through Townhall, Oppanakkara Street, Lingappa Chetty Street, Milk market, Green church road, Brooke bond road, beneath Avinashi road flyover and reach Anuparpalayam Dr.Nanjappa road via Somasundaram mill road, then pass beneath Avinashi road flyover and culminate in the Dhandumariamman temple on Avinashi road.
Hence, there will be a temporary change in routes for traffic movement from 6 am to 12 pm on April 24.
1) Vehicles which go to Ukkadam from Pollachi and Palakkad roads and go on to Oppanakara Street should take Valangulam bypass road and reach Sungam or go via Perur bypass road to reach their destination.
2) Vehicles which go to Palakkad via Mettupalayam road and Thadagam road can go through Ponnaiahrajapuram, Chokkampudur, Sivalaya theatre junction and Perur Bypass road to reach Ukkadam, when the procession reaches Brooke Bond road.
3) Vehicles which enter the city from Perur road can reach Gandhipark via Shivalaya theatre junction, Chokkampudur, Ponnaiahrajapuram and Thadagam road or can reach Ukkadam via Perur bypass road.
4) Vehicles which go to Ukkadam via Avinashi road old flyover can take a left turn at the Anna statue junction or J.M Bakery junction and go via Huzur road and Racecourse or via Railway station and reach Trichy road to reach their destination.
5) Vehicles which go to Ukkadam via Townhall from Trichy road – Heavy motor vehicles can go through Classic towers to Sungam Bypass and reach Ukkadam, while Light Motor Vehicles can go via Vincent road and reach Ukkadam.
Necessary steps will be taken to facilitate smooth regulation of traffic when the procession reaches strategic streets across the city. Unlike the current route, lorries are denied permission to enter Avinashi Road and areas through which the procession will pass from 6 am till the end of the procession timings.
Public in the city is requested to support the temporary route changes for vehicular movement.
