The Election Commission had announced by-election for the four legislative assembly constituencies namely Sulur, Aravakurichi, Thirupparankundram and Ottapidaaram on May 19. Following this, both DMK and AMMK announced its candidates. The DMK had also announced its electoral functionaries.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK has released a report of its electoral functionaries with no mention of its candidates. In the statement jointly released by the Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy and Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, it was noted that all the functionaries of the party under Sulur legislative assembly constituency, Coimbatore rural, Tirupur city and rural, Nilgiris, Nagapattinam, Viluppuram north and south, Thiruvallur east and west, Perambalur, South Chennai, North Chennai North (West) such as ministers, ex and present MPs will work for the election.
After the demise of the Sulur MLA Kanagaraj, no decision has yet been made in choosing a candidate for Sulur. "The delay is due to the confusion prevailing in allocating the seat to Madhappur Balu or ex-minister S M Velusami," say party functionaries in Sulur.
