Coimbatore : Murugesan and Hema are a couple from Kumbakonam who work in a spinning mill in Somanur area. Their four-year old son Rithish Pandi who was playing in the spinning mill campus sustained injuries after unknowingly inserting his hand into a machine.

Following this, the management of the mill rushed the boy to a nearby private hospital. Due to delay in treatment, it is reported that the boy's four fingers in the left hand had to be surgically removed. Meanwhile, the mill management who compensated the boy's parents with Rs.10,000 as advance for the boy's medical treatment have refused to pay further for his treatment. Hence, the couple have resorted to petitioning the Coimbatore Collector to take necessary action. “Being laborers, we are treating our son in the hospital by mortgaging the things that we have. If we get help for his treatment, we can procure an artificial limb for him and our child’s future can be saved,” lamented the parents.
